Town boss Mick McCarthy says midfielder Emyr Huws is all but certain to have an operation on the achilles problem which has prevented the Wales international from featuring since rejoining the club on a permanent basis from Cardiff City in the summer.
Huws, who enjoyed a hugely successful loan spell last season, was due to play in the Carabao Cup tie at Crystal Palace on Tuesday before suffering a recurrence of the problem, which had hampered him since the start of pre-season.
"It looks like he’ll be having an operation,” manager Mick McCarthy said. "He’s got to go and see [consultant foot and ankle surgeon] James Calder on Tuesday and we’re hoping and praying it won’t be, but we’re pretty sure that it will be.
"So let’s announce that he’s going to have an operation and hope that he doesn’t have to have one, wouldn’t that be good rather than the other way around.”
Regarding Town’s other ill and injured, he added: "Skusey hasn’t trained, as you know, he was ill. He hardly carries that much weight Skusey to be able to lose too much, although diarrhoea and sickness is no good for anybody.
"But he’s been out and had a jog today, I’m sure he’ll be all right tomorrow I’m certain. But he couldn’t do too much today in case it weakened him and affected him for tomorrow and Saturday. He’ll be OK.
"Wardy’s all right, he’s trained. Didz was in, he’s trained, he’s fine. Everybody was available last week will be available and then we’ll have the lads that were in the squad on Tuesday night.”
On some of Town’s other longer term absentees there was better news with Luke Hyam (knee) and Tom Adeyemi (calf) both closing in on returns.
"Luke and Tom have every chance of being involved against QPR after the break,” McCarthy said.
"Tom’s trained today, it was great to see him out on the training ground and I can see all the reasons why I liked him. It was his first session.
"Luke Hyam played for 60 minutes on Monday, he’ll play 90 minutes at Portman Road for the U23s [against Sheffield United] next Tuesday and then we’re playing [Sheffield Wednesday] at Hillsborough on the Saturday, he’ll play in both those games.
"So, if he gets through both of those OK, he’ll be ready for QPR. Tom Adeyemi will take part in some of those games if he’s OK, which I think he will be.”
Skipper Luke Chambers (ankle), Tommy Smith (hamstring), Adam Webster (ankle), Teddy Bishop (groin surgery) and Andre Dozzell (cruciate) all remain sidelined.
