McDonnell and Fowler Join Aldershot on Loan - Ipswich Town News

Town duo Adam McDonnell and George Fowler have joined Vanarama National League Aldershot on a month’s loan.

Irish U19 international midfielder McDonnell, 20, has made three starts and two sub appearances for the Blues’ first team, while central defender or right-back Fowler, 19, made his senior debut in last week's Carabao Cup tie at Crystal Palace.

The Shots are managed by Gary Waddock, who played alongside Town boss Mick McCarthy at Millwall and with the Republic of Ireland.

"I am once again very grateful to Mick McCarthy for his assistance with these deals, and look forward to working with two young players of undoubted quality," Waddock told the Aldershot official website.

The duo will train with the Shots for the first time tomorrow, the paperwork having been agreed this afternoon.

Last season, former Blues midfielder Kundai Benyu enjoyed a hugely successful spell on loan at Aldershot before joining Celtic earlier in the summer, while Town defender Pat Webber spent time on trial at the Recreation Ground early in pre-season but failed to impress enough to win a loan move.

Happy to have joined @OfficialShots on loan.. Looking forward to the challenge ahead!👍🏼

Like Benyu's move, the deals were facilitated by Aldershot's Boost the Budget scheme.

Director and Shots Trust chairman, Tommy Anderson, added: "I’m delighted to welcome Adam and George to the football club and I’m pleased to have been able to assist Gary with their signings.

"It is the direct contributions of supporters which have enabled the club to now make further signings from this scheme, and we want to help with many more signings going forward.”
