Goldson at Town to Complete Loan Move - Ipswich Town News

TWTD understands Brighton centre-half Connor Goldson has arrived at Town to undergo a medical and to complete the formalities on his loan move to the Blues.

As reported earlier, Brighton are set to sign Club Brugge defender Stefano Denswil on loan with manager Chris Hughton having been keen to add to his defensive ranks before he was willing to allow Goldson to join the Blues.

Confirmation of Denswil's move will lead to the rubberstamping of the Goldson switch, which seems likely to be a season-long deal with the usual option of being cut short in January.

Aside from the addition of the 24-year-old centre-half it’s expected to be a quiet final day of the transfer window at Portman Road.

The signing of another centre-half has been Blues boss Mick McCarthy’s priority for the last couple of weeks with skipper Luke Chambers, Tommy Smith and Adam Webster all sidelined with injury.

TWTD first reported that Town had made an approach for Goldson a fortnight ago with the 6ft 3in defender only having featured for the Seagulls in the Carabao Cup this season.

Goldson, who has also been interesting Sheffield United, returned to action in pre-season having undergone heart surgery in March after a swollen aorta was discovered during routine screening in January.

The centre-half or right-back started his career with Shrewsbury, during which time he spent a spell on loan at Cheltenham, before joining Brighton, to whom he is contracted for three more years, in August 2015 for a fee of £600,000.

Since his move to the Amex he has made 32 starts and three sub appearances, scoring twice, most of those games coming in the 2015/16 campaign as the Seagulls made the Championship play-offs after finishing third. Coincidentally, his first Championship start came in Town's 1-0 win at the Amex in December 2015.

Last season he made only four Championship starts and one sub appearance due to a knee injury suffered in pre-season and then the discovery of the heart problem which cut short his campaign.

Town are not thought to be looking to add to any other area of their squad before the window closes at 11pm this evening.

Youngsters Adam McDonnell and George Fowler were allowed to join Aldershot on a month’s loan yesterday but further departures seem unlikely, aside from out-of-favour midfielder Kevin Bru.

The Mauritius international was told in May he could leave if he found himself a new club and recently said he was considering offers from sides in France and elsewhere.

If the 28-year-old isn’t close to completing a move the Blues could settle the remaining year of his contract, allowing the former Levski Sofia man to find another club outside the transfer window.
