Trio Could Win Caps - Ipswich Town News

Blues youngsters Tristan Nydam, Flynn Downes and Conor McKendry could all win caps later today.

Nydam, 17, and Downes, 18, are with the England U19s, who face Germany in a friendly at Mansfield’s One Call Stadium (KO 7.45pm).

Nydam added a first U19s cap to his one game for the U18s as the Young Lions thrashed Poland 7-1 on Friday. Downes, yet to be capped at any level, was an unused sub.

McKendry is with the Northern Ireland U21s who face Slovakia in a European Championships qualifier away in Senica.

The 18-year-old is in an U21s squad for the first time and will be hoping to win his first cap at that level having been left out of the 18 which beat Albania 1-0 on Thursday. The Northern Irish youngsters currently top their group.

Meanwhile, striker David McGoldrick is understood not to have linked up with the Irish squad ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Serbia in Dublin this evening.

Having been named in the squad, McGoldrick, 29, missed Saturday’s game in Georgia after remaining in the UK with his wife, who gave birth to the couple’s fourth child last week.

Manager Martin O’Neill explained ahead of the Georgia match: ”David McGoldrick, his wife delivered a baby but she lost a lot of blood. She's recovered, she's out of hospital now, but I think it was important for him to be there.”
