Cardiff Pair Win August Awards - Ipswich Town News

Cardiff City pair Neil Warnock and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing carried off the Sky Bet Championship Manager and Player of the Month awards for August, Town’s Mick McCarthy and Martyn Waghorn having been among the nominees.

McCarthy said yesterday he was fully expecting Warnock, whose side top the division after a 100 per cent start to the campaign, to win it.

"If he doesn’t get the Manager of the Month award they can scrap that award altogether!" he joked.

"I’ve just seen I was nominated for it, which is really nice and I see Waggy’s been nominated for the Player of the Month, which is even nicer still, but it’s Warney’s, he can’t not get it.”

Also nominated were Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen and Wolves manager Nuno Espírito Santo.

The other nominees for the Player of the Month award were Sheffield United frontman Billy Sharp and Preston defender Darnell Fisher.

Elsewhere, Blues frontman Kieffer Moore, who is in loan at Rotherham, was beaten to the League One Player of the Month gong by ex-Town striker Jack Marriott. Another former Blues attacker Frank Nouble won the League Two award.
