Defender Jonas Knudsen is fit for Saturday’s trip to Leeds United but midfielders Flynn Downes and Danny Rowe have both been ruled out of the game against the Championship leaders.
The Danish international missed last Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Bolton due to a hamstring injury but manager Mick McCarthy says he’s now recovered.
"He’s fine, he was training on Tuesday with Lids [fitness coach Andy Liddell], doing his rehab, his fitness work,” he said.
"As usual we get one injured and we’re a man down and he joined in and he’s been fine. He’s in good shape.
"Flynn won’t be involved this weekend, he tweaked his thigh. One in, one out, we’ll get the revolving door going.”
Rowe will also be absent having suffered his knock in the U23s’ 5-2 win at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.
"Danny got clattered on Tuesday and he’s injured as well,” McCarthy added. "He’s not available for Saturday, he took a really hefty knock, it was a bad tackle apparently.”
Speaking last week, the Town boss said Tommy Smith, who has been out with a hamstring injury, and Luke Hyam, who had suffered a setback as he looked to return from his knee problem, might return to training on Monday.
However, he says Smith, who was doing Pilates along with Adam Webster and a number of other players at Playford Road earlier this afternoon, is yet to return to training, while Hyam is still feeling his injury, which he picked up at the start of pre-season training.
"Tommy Smith, no. Luke Hyam joined in this morning and very sadly had to walk back in, he felt a twinge in his knee again,” McCarthy said.
Better news was Webster playing 63 minutes for the U23s on Tuesday, his first game as he makes his recovery from his latest ankle injury.
"He has been unlucky and I think everybody saw what potential he has when he came and he played his games,” McCarthy reflected.
"But he’s just damaged his ankle ligaments a couple of times, they’ve been long-term injuries.
"It’s nice to see his happy, smiling face again. He’s back and he’s enjoying it. He had 60 minutes at Nottingham Forest, for the U23s on Tuesday and he’ll have part of the game against Coventry next week. He’s not ready for first-team action yet.
"He won’t travel this weekend. He might tell you different, but one 60 minutes after three months out, that’s not conducive to first-team football, unless you’re Luke Chambers, of course. That’s a completely different issue.”
McCarthy hopes midfield duo Emyr Huws, who has had an achilles problem, and Teddy Bishop, who underwent groin surgery last month, will be back in mid-October.
"I would hope Emyr certainly after the next international break and I think Bish as well,” he added.
"What was lovely about Bish was that I said to him the other day, ‘How are you doing?’ and he said, ‘Great’.
"I said, ‘We’ll leave it at that, conversation’s over’. I was delighted to hear that because he’s just had so many little niggles and tweaks. It was just great to hear him say he felt well. And that was the same today, so I’m really pleased.”
The Town boss hopes Bishop, now 21, will be spurred by the progress made by the likes of Downes, 18, and Tristan Nydam, 17, in his absence.
"He was the young kid breaking through when we played Middlesbrough three years ago and they were all waxing lyrical about him,” he said.
"He was brilliant when he came in and certainly made a big impression on everybody, he made a big impression not only here but in the league. But very sadly for him and for us he’s been injured for such a long time since.
"So, I would imagine if he gets that lucky break and he’s fit, he’ll be raring to go and we’ll have a good player on our hands.”
Fellow midfielder Andre Dozzell has been ruled out for the season with the torn cruciate knee ligament he sustained on the opening day.
