Recall for Finidi? - Ipswich Town News

Finidi George could still be at this summer's World Cup after former captain Sunday Oliseh made up with new Nigerian manager Adegboye Onigbinde. However, the Nigerian Football Association have reiterated that Oliseh will not be involved in Japan.

Finidi and Oliseh were involved in a row over unpaid bonuses and flight tickets during the African Nations' Cup and have publically criticised the new manager. Oliseh's return to the fold would suggest that the same might happen to the Town midfielder.

According to the manager Oliseh is set to be involved in Thursday's friendly with Ireland and another with Jamaica in London. Onigbinde says Oliseh apologised to him and the realised they had nothing to quarrel about.

Finidi feels this may give him a chance of a recall: "There is now a chance that I will be able to join the Nigerian party. I'm still waiting to see what is going to happen. I'm going home to Nigeria in the next 12 hours so it will be difficult for me to come back from there so quickly.

However, Taiwo Ogunjobi, secretary-general of the Nigerian FA, has said that Sunday Oliseh continues to be out of favour ahead of Japan and Korea: "Oliseh is definitely out of our World Cup plans. We cannot go back to the Oliseh issue because that would be an unnecessary distraction. We don't have a place for him in the team."

Quite how things will be resolved remains to be discovered, however all this confusion can be nothing but good news for England who meet Nigeria at the group stage of the World Cup.
