U18s Defeated By Cardiff - Ipswich Town News

Town's U18s fell to a 3-0 defeat at home to Cardiff City on Saturday morning with a hat-trick from Bluebirds striker Sion Spence separating the sides.

Alan Lee's team came closest to breaking the deadlock shortly before the half-hour mark when Ellis Murrell's freekick from near the right corner flag was headed onto the bar by Ross Marshall at the back post.

On 39 Spence gave the visitors the lead with a first time, left-foot volley into the bottom far corner following a precise cross from Eli King.

Four minutes after the restart the Welsh side doubled their advantage, Spence again the man on target when he hit an effort back across goal which nestled in the far corner of the net.

Town keeper Toby Egan made a good save down low to his right to deny Spence his third minutes later, but he couldn't do anything to prevent the frontman claiming the match ball on 65 following a good move involving Connor Davies and Kieron Evans.

Despite starting off with a changed formation which included three defenders and two wing-backs, Town rarely threatened after going a goal behind and in truth on another day Cardiff could have won by more than they did.

U18s: Egan, Ronan, Barley (McGavin 52), Ogunmekan, Marshall, Vega, Cahill, Murrell, Lankester (Brown 46), Dobra, Hughes. Unused: Allen, Knight, Henry.
