Striker David McGoldrick says this is one of his most important seasons with his Town contract up in the summer and with the Republic of Ireland facing Denmark in a World Cup qualification play-off next month.
"This is one of the most important years for me, no doubt about that,” McGoldrick said in an interview in today’s match programme.
"I’m out of contract and there is no option on that either. It’s down to me and the club what happens next year.”
He added: "I have not been offered anything by the club yet but if that changes then obviously I’ve got to look at it. I have a lot of respect for the club and the staff here.
"My family are back in Nottingham, so I have to think about that. I’m 29 now and have probably got one or maybe two contracts ahead of me before I’m in the real world, as they say!
"It’s a short career, football, so I know it’s a big decision for me ahead but, as I said, it’s not something I’m worried about. I will deal with it when I come across it.”
McGoldrick, who hopes to be part of the Ireland squad which takes on the Danes in Noember's two-legged tie for a place in Russia next summer, says it was his decision to return to Town between the recent qualifiers against Moldova and Wales.
"I wasn’t in the matchday squad for the Moldova game and that was going to be the same for Wales,” he continued.
"I had a chat with [manager] Martin O’Neill and asked if I could go back and be with my family and he was fine with that, there were no problems. I have not given up on my Ireland career at all.”
Reflecting on the possibility of playing at next summer’s finals, six-times-capped McGoldrick added: "A lot can happen over a season and if we get to the World Cup what a carrot that is. Ireland have not seen the best of me.”
