Huws Expected to Return to Squad for Hull Trip, Bishop Back in Training - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Mick McCarthy says midfielder Emyr Huws could return to the Town squad for the trip to Hull City after the international break, while Teddy Bishop is also back in training having undergone groin surgery in August. Tom Adeyemi remains out of action with his hamstring problem.

McCarthy says no new injuries were sustained at Cardiff on Tuesday and that the same players will be involved against Preston tomorrow.

"It’s the same squad,” he said. "Emyr’s training with us, as is Teddy Bishop, but not ready to be playing yet.”

"Is he now looking to the Hull City trip after the international break for Huws's return? Yes, Emyr will play in our U23s on Monday and then Wales have called him up and I would expect him to go and join up there and if he can get some football there that’s going to help him.

"But he’s had one game, the U23s game last week, since May which really doesn’t constitute him starting a game.”

McCarthy says the international call helped raise the 24-year-old’s spirits after a tough opening few months of the season having joined the Blues on a permanent basis from Cardiff in the summer.

"Yes, he’s had a smile on his face for the last couple of weeks, he’s been out training, he’s been out on the pitch and he’s getting back to his old self,” he said.

"Watching him today, certainly him and Teddy training with the first team, wow, the ability that we miss with those two.”

McCarthy confirmed that Adeyemi remains sidelined - "He’s still injured” - and admits it’s been a frustration not to be able to field his two close season midfield signings on a regular basis with Huws yet to feature at all and the one-time Norwich youngster having made only four starts and one sub appearance.

"If I’m playing 4-3-3 they would have been nailed on to start,” he said. "If Teddy Bishop and Luke Hyam and all these that could have been fit that would have been a really good, solid, full-of-talent midfield three.”

He added: "We’ve had a number of injuries at different places but they are really good players. We saw Emyr last year, we had him here and I wanted him back, everybody else did.

"To have him injured and not even kick a ball for us has been really disappointing. We’ve seen the impact that Tom’s had when he plays. We need some bodies back.”

Hyam remains sidelined having undergone a knee injury, while Andre Dozzell is almost certainly out for the season, due to the torn cruciate knee ligament he sustained on the opening day.
