Downes Could Win Second U19s Cap - Ipswich Town News

Town midfielder Flynn Downes could win his second England U19s cap this evening when the Young Lions face the Faroe Islands in the first game of their European Championships qualification mini-group at the Trace Arena in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria (KO 4.30pm UK time).

The England youngsters subsequently face Iceland on Saturday and the host nation next Tuesday at the same venue.

The top two nations in the group go through to the elite round of qualifying which will be held in March. The finals are in Finland in July next year.

England are defending the title they won in Georgia in the summer, a team which featured Blues midfielder Andre Dozzell, who still qualifies for the U19s but is out injured, almost certainly for the whole season.

Downes, 18, has previously won one U19s cap in the 3-1 defeat to Germany at Mansfield in September, his first appearance for England at any level.
