McGoldrick Not in Irish Squad Travelling to Denmark - Ipswich Town News

Blues striker David McGoldrick has not been included in the Republic of Ireland squad flying to Copenhagen this afternoon for the first leg of their World Cup play-off against Denmark on Saturday.

The 29-year-old was included in the provisional squad announced last month but was left out of the reduced party named on Monday.

However, manager Martin O’Neill subsequently said he hadn’t ruled out six-times-capped McGoldrick, who he revealed has "a bit of a long-standing groin problem", joining up with the squad later in the week.

But the Blues’ striker, who has scored seven times for Town this season, is not on the list of those travelling released by the FAI this lunchtime.

Ex-Town pair Daryl Murphy and Conor Hourihane are both on the flight, as is Jon Walters who has made the trip in a supporting role along with Everton’s Seamus Coleman, the pair having been ruled out of the two-legged tie due to injury.

Ireland and Denmark, who added Town left-back Jonas Knudsen to their squad on Sunday, meet in the second leg in Dublin on Tuesday.

Ireland: Darren Randolph, Keiren Westwood, Rob Elliot, Cyrus Christie, Matt Doherty, Paul McShane, Shane Duffy, Ciaran Clark, John O'Shea, Kevin Long, Stephen Ward, Aiden McGeady, Jeff Hendrick, Robbie Brady, Glenn Whelan, Conor Hourihane, Harry Arter, David Meyler, Eunan O'Kane, Wes Hoolahan, Callum O'Dowda, James McClean, Shane Long, Daryl Murphy, Scott Hogan, Aiden O’Brien.
