Midfielder Emyr Huws has been ruled out for the rest of the season having undergone knee surgery. The Wales international was subbed at half-time during Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough having suffered knee and hip knocks.
After the 24-year-old, who had only just returned to action following an achilles problem suffered in pre-season, saw a specialist it was revealed he had sustained a cartilage tear and he went under the knife today.
"Emyr has a complex tear of his lateral meniscus,” Blues physio Matt Byard told the club site. "
"It has been repaired and the average recovery period is around six months which means he will obviously miss the rest of the season.”""
Boss Mick McCarthy added: "It’s obviously very disappointing for us but even more so for Emyr. We know the quality he brings to the team and he will be missed."
Thank you for the kind messages. Hard to comprehend what has happened to me this season but these things happen. I am truly blessed regardless with my amazing family and strong team behind me I’ll come back better than before. See you in 2018 👊🻠pic.twitter.com/gRsf3MnSrA

The midfielder, who made three starts and two sub appearances after returning to action following his achilles injury, joined Town from Cardiff on a permanent basis in the summer for a fee understood to be approaching £1 million in the summer after a highly successful loan spell last season.
