Skuse and Smith Start at Fulham - Ipswich Town News

Cole Skuse and Tommy Smith return to the Town line-up for tonight’s opening game of 2018 against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Skuse, who is back after his ankle injury, will take up his usual role in midfield alongside Callum Connolly. Kevin Bru drops to the bench.

Smith makes his first Town appearance since the 3-1 defeat at Cardiff on October 31st having got over the calf injury he suffered while on international duty with New Zealand. Adam Webster misses out due to the achilles problem he suffered on Saturday.

Luke Hyam is included on the bench for the first time this season having recovered from the knee operation he underwent in September. Hyam’s most recent appearance for Town was at Derby on the final day of the 2015/16 campaign.

David McGoldrick is also again among the subs with Grant Ward starting on the right of the trio behind Joe Garner with Martyn Waghorn in the centre and Bersant Celina on the left.

Adam McDonnell, who has been among the subs in recent matches, misses out as he is unwell.


For Fulham, Ollie Norwood and Aboubakar Kamara start with Tomas Kalas and Kevin McDonald dropping to the bench.

Town moved level on points with second-placed Leeds United following a pulsating 3-3 draw with Hull City at the MKM Stadium having been in front three times. Returning striker George Hirst put the Blues in front in the 19th minute but the Tigers levelled on 40 through Ozan Tufan before Omari Hutchinson put Town back ahead with the first of two brilliant goals. However, Hull equalised again through Liam Delap in the 56th minute, then Hutchinson’s second put the Blues ahead again, however, Tigers sub Noah Ohio grabbed a point for the East Yorkshire side with three minutes remaining and the Blues were unable to take late chances to win it.
