McCarthy: Drinan Will Be a Good Player for Us - Ipswich Town News

Blues boss Mick McCarthy says new striker Aaron Drinan has continued to catch the eye of his new team-mates in training with skipper Luke Chambers having commented on how impressed he has been with the 19-year-old Irishman.

Drinan, who formally signed from Waterford earlier in the month having been at Playford Road since October, made his first appearance in a Town shirt as the U23s drew 2-2 at Crystal Palace on Monday having been an unused sub during Saturday's 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Sheffield United.

"He’s good, everybody’s delighted with him,” McCarthy said. "Chambo said to me today, ‘What about Aaron, what a good player he is’. It’s nice that when your peers recognise that and certainly because he’s training against him.

"He did very well against Crystal Palace, his first game. He was blowing, of course, but he’ll be a good player for us.”

Does McCarthy believe the youngster is ready for the Championship? "He can compete in the Championship, whether he can compete week in, week out and be the number nine, the number one striker, that’s not going to happen immediately, but I think he’ll have an impact in the Championship.”
