McCarthy Not Aware of Bru Interest - Ipswich Town News

Blues boss Mick McCarthy says he’s not aware of any interest in midfielder Kevin Bru, who has been linked with French sides Toulouse and St-Etienne and Polish champions Legia Warsaw. Clubs in Belgium and Cardiff City have also been mentioned in connection with the 29-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Bru was made available in the summer and almost joined Toulouse but the deal broke down on the final day of the window. The Paris-born player had been out of McCarthy's plans but injuries saw him return to the squad in the last few months.

Quizzed on the reported interest, McCarthy said it was news to him: "No. I’m sat here saying no as if I’m somebody who has got nothing to do with this at all.

"But unless somebody picks the phone up to me, all this stuff in the papers, all this stuff on your websites and social media and all the stuff that goes on, doesn’t interest me that much.

"Until somebody picks the phone up and generally, that’s one of the managers or the director of football or somebody that rings me, or an agent, and I’d still say to the agent to get the manager to call me, I’d like to speak to him if he’s got an interest in him because that’s what I tend to do.”

Last week McCarthy said he wouldn’t be willing to allow Bru to move on during the window given his midfield injury problems.

However, when asked if he was still keen to keep hold of the Mauritius international this afternoon, he hinted that he might have an addition on the way: "Unless, of course, we get somebody in.”

McCarthy's former Wolves player Adlene Guedioura, who is currently out of favour at Middlesbrough, was linked at the weekend and looks a not unlikely addition.
