U17s Impress - Ipswich Town News

Town's Academy U17s reached the final of the international youth tournament in Grubbenvorst, Holland over the weekend. The Blues fielded a very young side with many regular players taking exams at present.

Town's first opponents were Dutch team Willem II who they despatched 3-0, with goals from Lee McGlone (2) and Northern Irishman Sam Morrow.

Then another Dutch side, RKC Waalwijk, were beaten 4-1 with Town's scorers Blair Hammond, Matt Richards and two more from Morrow.

Host club SV Blerick were beaten 2-1 (Aidan Collins and Marc Smith) before McGlone, a trialist from Ipswich Wanderers, scored the goal which beat Ajax 1-0.

A draw with another Dutch side VVV saw the Blues through to the final against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Town's excellent run ended there with a 2-0 loss to the German side.
