Sheepshanks on Finance - Ipswich Town News

Town chairman David Sheepshanks says that the problems that Bradford are currently suffering are a lesson to all football clubs. He adds that despite having to lose players this summer Town will still have the nucleus of a good squad.

The chairman said: "I think what happened at Bradford is a clear warning to all of us. They got promoted on merit with a squad of older players and don't have an Academy of their own so they had to invest heavily in new players. Once relegation came then they were left with massive overheads.

He says any new TV deal will bring in less money than the ill-fated ITV Digital agreement: "Clubs have been getting between £2-3million, but I expect any new deal will generate in the region of £1-2million for each club."

Of Town's circumstances after relegation he admits players will go but is optimistic: "We have to find £15m, and it's inevitable that the major part of that will come from sales of players.

"I would say though, that despite that, I still feel the nucleus of the squad will be very strong, and we'll certainly be much stronger than we would have been if we'd not been promoted."

He feels that George Burley is very much the man to take Town back to the Premiership: "In George we have a manager who is a very proud man, and someone who has been stung by relegation but at the same time has become even more determined to bounce straight back.

"And our new target is a one-year one, to get promotion in the first year."
