McGoldrick Back for East Anglian Derby - Ipswich Town News

Striker David McGoldrick will be back in the Town squad for Sunday’s East Anglian derby against Norwich City at Carrow Road having returned to training following the knee problem which saw him miss the last two games.

"He’s trained for the last couple of days, so he’ll be involved in the next three games,” manager Mick McCarthy said.

"It’s fantastic to have him available again. We’ve had a season of injuries and that was just another one on top of it all. He’s been out, he’s been moving well, he’s back at it.”

McCarthy says he has no other new injuries but that keeper Michael Crowe, 22, went home ill earlier today.

"Everybody’s OK injury-wise but Michael Crowe, the back-up to Bart, was sent home because he was poorly. Hopefully that doesn’t spread to anybody else. We’ve got a fit squad.”

He added: "I don’t know whether he’ll miss out. He’s not poorly sick and dying but he was sent home so it doesn’t get any worse and he doesn’t pass anything on. I’ll know tomorrow.”

With regular second choice Dean Gerken out for the season having undergone hip surgery, Town would be forced to put either former England U18 international Nick Hayes, 18, or Harry Wright, 19, on the bench if Crowe, who himself is still to make a first-team debut for the Blues- fails to make it.

However, McCarthy’s not overly concerned at the prospect of having a teenager whose only senior experience was well down the non-league pyramid - Hayes was on loan at Dunstable earlier in the season and Wright with East Thurrock United - on the bench for such a big game.

"If he gets as much to do as every other sub keeper’s had to do all season, we’ll be all right, won’t we?”

In addition to Gerken, midfielders Andre Dozzell and Emyr Huws (both knee) and Teddy Bishop (hamstring) are all out for the season.

Former Canary Tom Adeyemi is closing in on a return after a long spell out injured but is not expected to be back in first-team action until March.
