McCarthy: Next Year's Squad Stronger After Return of Long-Term Injured - Ipswich Town News

Blues boss Mick McCarthy believes his squad will be stronger next season with the addition of the players who have missed much of this campaign through injury, let alone any summer signings which might be made.

Even back to pre-season Town have been hit badly by injuries and illness with two of their main summer recruits - Emyr Huws and Tom Adeyemi - having started only seven games between them.

Huws is one of three midfielders out for the season, along with Andre Dozzell and Teddy Bishop, while David McGoldrick is the latest player to have joined them on the sidelines, although the Ireland international is unlikely to still be at Town next season with his contract up.

Looking ahead to next season, when McCarthy may or may not still be in charge at Portman Road, he said: "I would like to get Tom Adeyemi back, Emyr Huws back fully fit, to keep Webbo fully fit, he’s missed a lot of football.

"Teddy Bishop, Andre Dozzell, who was the best player on the pitch in the first game of the season, that would help a lot of things.

"And I think then with Flynn Downes and Tristan Nydam, and hopefully Ben Morris is going to come to the fore, he’s doing really well, we’ve got a pretty good squad.”

A feeling of what might have been this season given all the injuries? "I’d like to think we’d have been better but what about the players who have come in and done so well.

"You can always bemoan your luck with injuries but the players who have come in have been excellent.”
