Town Face Spaniards? - Ipswich Town News

TWTD understands that Town's final pre-season opponents could be Spanish side Celta Vigo. The Blues' final pre-season match is traditionally against continental clubs, with PSV and Fiorentina the opposition in the last two seasons.

The Spanish side are yet to confirm, but they are very much expected to face Town in the August 3rd game (KO 3pm). We also understand that the club spoke to Valencia regarding the match.

Celta Vigo are Pablo Couñago's old side and relations between the two clubs were less than harmonious last summer after the striker joined Town on a Bosman.

Celta president Horacio Gomez claimed he wanted to take action against the Blues in an attempt to gain £2.3 million compensation for the loss of Couñago, a Spanish U21 international. However, this got nowhere.

In addition to the Spaniards, the Blues will also face away games against AaB Aalborg, Farum Boldklub, Bristol Rovers, Bristol City, Barnet and Brentford.
