Carayol Expected to Miss Next Three - Ipswich Town News

Mustapha Carayol will miss tomorrow’s home game against Sheffield United with the groin injury he suffered in the early stages of the 2-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday and also looks set to remain on the sidelines for the midweek match against Hull City and next Saturday’s visit to Bristol City.

"He’s not fit for tomorrow and we’ll wait and see for Tuesday and Saturday but they both come pretty quick, so I’m not that optimistic that he’ll be involved in any of them,” manager Mick McCarthy said of the winger, who is set to be a guest on Saturday's Life's a Pitch on BBC Radio Suffolk.

The Town boss says he has few other worries, although left wing-back Jonas Knudsen is being monitored and Joe Garner continues to be treated with kid gloves.

"No, they’re all right. Jonas has got a bit of a tight hamstring, we’ll see how he is, we’ll wait and see tomorrow.

"We’re looking after Joe a little bit, but he’s OK, he’s in the squad. Other than that, were all right.”

He added: "Joe’s had a bang on his knee and he’s been having to manage that. Not being able to train regularly there’s a gradual decrease in your fitness and your level if you’re playing on Saturday, you don’t train until Thursday or Friday and then you keep doing that week in, week out, that’s hard to continue doing that. It’s just a bang on his knee that’s been a problem really.”

McCarthy says the former Rangers and Preston man is the type not to mention knocks too readily and at the moment he’s the one making the decision whether he’s fit enough to be involved in training.

"Oh yes,” McCarthy reflected. "He comes into my office every morning, we shake hands, ‘Morning Joe’, ‘Morning Gaff’. ‘How you doing Joe?’, ‘Great!’ and I know full well when he limps out he’s not but I don’t argue with him because he’s that kind. He puts that positive persona on.”

McCarthy says Tom Adeyemi remains sidelined: "He’s just coming back, he’s still the same. He’s rehabbing. It’s the hamstring, it's still bothering him.”

Midfielders Andre Dozzell, Emyr Huws (both knee) and Teddy Bishop (hamstring), striker David McGoldrick (groin) and keeper Dean Gerken (hip) are all out for the rest of the season.
