McCarthy Delighted for Crowe - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Mick McCarthy is delighted for young keeper Michael Crowe, who received his first senior call for Wales this morning.

The Welsh are travelling to the China Cup later this month where they face the hosts and then the Czech Republic or Uruguay.

Last week first-choice Blues keeper Bartosz Bialkowski received his first senior Polish international call.

London-born, Norway-raised Crowe, 22, who qualifies for Wales via his grandmother, has previously won U21 and U19 caps.

"He’s been called up to the squad, he’s been playing at U21 level as it is,” McCarthy said. "It’s great for him, I’m delighted for Michael.

"He’s not been playing that many games, he’s been training with the first team and training well, and he’s been back on the bench since Dean Gerken’s been injured. But he’s not been called upon. Thankfully Bart’s remained fit.”

Was the call a surprise? "Yes, because it’s come through this morning. I don’t know their goalkeeping situation but anyway I’m happy for Michael he’s been called up.”
