Bru Skippers Mauritius to Win as Downes Unused Sub - Ipswich Town News
Blues midfielder Kevin Bru skippered Mauritius to a 2-0 victory over Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar this afternoon, while Flynn Downes was an unused sub for the England U19s.
The 29-year-old, who was winning his 15th full cap, assisted his side’s second goal having scored the winner in Thursday’s 1-0 victory over Macau in Taipa, his second international goal.
Elsewhere, Downes remained on the bench as a much-changed England U19s side was beaten 2-0 by Macedonia, who ended the match with 10 men, in their final European Championships elite group qualifying group game in Skopje.
The 19-year-old, who is currently on loan at Luton, played the full 90 minutes of both the Young Lions' earlier matches.
The England youngsters had already won the group prior to today's game to confirm their place at the finals in Finland in July where they will defend the title they won in Georgia last summer, a team which featured currently-injured Blues midfielder Andre Dozzell, who still qualifies for the U19s.
Later today, Jonas Knudsen, Bartosz Bialkowski, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Bersant Celina are among those who could also win caps.
Meanwhile, academy schoolboy Ben Knight, 15, is in the England U16s squad for the Montaigu tournament in France taking place in the next few days.
