U18s Lose to Owls - Ipswich Town News

Town's U18s were beaten 1-0 by Sheffield Wednesday at Playford Road on Saturday morning.

Midfielder Liam Waldock came within inches of opening the scoring early on but his long range drive clipped the woodwork.

The same player was somehow denied from six yards out by a fine save from Mitchell Ware on 39, but the Town keeper was finally beaten by Waldock two minutes before half-time following a quick break.

Ware made another good save to deny Stefan Gouriov shortly after the restart, while at the other end Zak Brown latched on to a long ball following a defensive mix up but he blazed his effort over.

In stoppage time youngster Ben Knight cut in and hit a low shot that visiting keeper Ben Williams fumbled, sub Thomas Hughes reacted quickest and found the net but he was ruled offside.

Blues midfielder Cole Skuse, who misses today's first-team game at Brentford after suffering a blow to the head against Millwall on Monday, helped out with the U18s' pre-match warm-up.

U18s: Ware, Henry (Ronan 69), T Smith, Scott, Henderson, Vega, Knight, El Mizouni, Z Brown, Foudil (Ogunmekan 76), Dobra (Hughes 62). Unused: Egan, Barley.
