Lankester on Target But U23s Fall to Late Defeat at Huddersfield - Ipswich Town News

Sub Jack Lankester was on target but Town’s U23s fell to a 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield at their PPG Canalside training ground this afternoon with all the goals coming in the final six minutes and injury time.

Defender Rarmani Edmonds-Green headed the Terriers in front on 84, but Lankester curled home an equaliser in the penultimate minute of scheduled time, 11 minutes after coming off the bench.

But like the first team at Nottingham Forest on Saturday, the Blues conceded a late, late goal, Matty Daly netting a penalty four minutes into added-on time.

The defeat, the young Blues’ third in a row, sees them remain third in the Professional Development League Two South table and unable to finish any higher after Charlton confirmed second place by beating Birmingham 2-1.

Next Monday’s match against Bolton Wanderers at Portman Road (KO 7pm) is the U23s' only remaining game. The top two in the table - Crystal Palace and the Addicks - go into the end-of-season play-offs.

Town's U18s are in action on Tuesday afternoon when they face Leeds United at their Thorp Arch training ground in a game which was postponed last month due to the weather (KO 1pm).

U23s: M Crowe; D Crowe, Clements, McLoughlin, Marshall, Ndaba, Brown, Blanchfield (McGavin 45), Drinan, Lewis, McKendry (Lankester 78) Unused: Sagaf, Wright, Vega.
