Milne: Sheeran Portman Road Gig Would Be Fantastic - Ipswich Town News
MD Ian Milne says it would be “fantastic” for Portman Road to host a concert by Ed Sheeran at some point in the future.
The Framlingham-based pop star was at Saturday’s game against Aston Villa with fiancée Cherry Seaborn.
"That would be fantastic,” Milne told BBC Radio Suffolk’s Life’s a Pitch. "It would be great for Ipswich, it would be great for the football club.”
Speaking just over a year ago, Sheeran said he anticipated such a concert taking place at some stage.
"I would love to play Portman Road," he said. "I think that would be the closest to home I'd be comfortable playing. I don't know when that's going to happen, but it will happen eventually in my career.”
Artists to previously play on the main pitch include Elton John twice, Barry Manilow, P!nk, REM, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Neil Diamond and Rod Stewart.
This summer the Blues are staging IP1 Live, a two-night music festival in the FanZone which will take place in July featuring acts including Alexander O’Neal, You Me At Six, who were also on Saturday’s Life’s a Pitch, Circa Waves, The Sugarhill Gang and Furious Five.
Full details can be found on at the IP1 Live website where tickets are currently on sale at £25 for the Friday night, £30 for the Saturday and £50 for both.
