Town Keeping Tabs on Scotland Striker - Ipswich Town News

TWTD understands Town have been keeping tabs on Scotland international striker Jason Cummings, who has spent the second half of the season on loan with Rangers from Nottingham Forest.

The Blues are likely to be need additional senior frontmen ahead of next season with David McGoldrick appearing certain to depart in the summer with his current contract up and no new deal having been offered by Town.

Freddie Sears also recently indicated that he will consider his Blues future at the end of the season.

Cummings, 22, was with Hearts and Hutchison Vale as a schoolboy before joining the youth set-up at Hibernian with whom he made his breakthrough into first-team football in 2013/14.

Having netted 69 goals in 124 starts and 24 sub appearances while with the Easter Road club, Nottingham Forest boss Mark Warburton signed him for a fee understood to be around £1 million last summer.

The 5ft 10in tall frontman made only 10 starts and seven sub appearances for Forest in the first half of the campaign, scoring four goals - three in the Carabao Cup - before being loaned to Rangers in January following Warburton’s departure.

Since his move to Ibrox, Cummings, who has been capped twice at full level by Scotland in addition to games for the U19s and U21s, has scored six times - four in the Scottish Cup including a hat-trick in a 4-1 victory over Falkirk - in six starts and eight sub appearances. Yesterday, he opened the scoring as Rangers defeated Hearts 2-1 at Ibrox.

Despite still having two more years on his Forest contract, Cummings appears likely to leave the City Ground on a permanent basis in the summer.

While Town will have continued to scout potential summer targets in recent weeks despite Mick McCarthy’s exit - director of football Dave Bowman, effectively the chief scout, remains in his role but is likely to depart when his former boss finds a new job - the new manager once appointed is likely to have his own ideas of who he wants to bring in during the close season.

However, Cummings may well remain on the radar, particularly if Warburton - who has been linked with the Town job and is currently 25-1 with Bet Victor - is the man who gets the nod.
