Cameron Carter-Vickers is open to a return to Town again next season if parent club Tottenham decide another loan move would benefit his career.
The 20-year-old defender has started 16 Championship games since arriving at Portman Road in January and before that he started 17 in the league for Sheffield United, plus the Blades’ 1-0 win over Town in the FA Cup.
Carter-Vickers said: "Nobody knows what is going to happen next season but if there was an option to come back here it is definitely something I would consider.
"I would be open to offers, but it’s not really going to be my decision, it will be up to the gaffer at Tottenham to decide what’s next for me.
"I will be going back there in pre-season, see what his thoughts are and go from there.
"That’s all I know, that I have to report to Spurs for pre-season training. I’ll probably train with the first team and then go from there.
"I’m only 20 so I guess I’ll have to be patient. I still feel young and I’m waiting for all the pieces to fall into place.
"It’s down to the manager at Tottenham and what he wants me to do. It’s also about playing games and I definitely feel I have benefited from playing regularly, so I hope that continues next season, whether it’s for Spurs or another club on loan.
"I’m from Southend and I live in Brentwood now so Ipswich has been a good location for me. I have also really enjoyed my time on loan here and it has benefited me in terms of my career in football.
"If the opportunity arose to come back next season I would be open to it, but there are so many things involved in me going out on loan again and some of them are outside my control.”
Carter-Vickers looked back to last week’s 4-0 home defeat to an Aston Villa side now certain to at least finish in the play-offs but who are also hoping they can still gatecrash the top two automatic promotion places and join champions Wolves in moving up to the Premier League.
He added: "Aston Villa are a really good team so we always knew it was going to be a challenge.
"Their first goal was a bit fortunate for them, the way the ball took a deflection off Skusey and then came back off the post for them to put it in, and as soon as Grant picked up a red card it was an uphill battle and very difficult for us.
"We had a few chances and got a few crosses in during the first half when we still had 11 men and it would have been a totally different game without the sending-off.
"But they are a good team with some great players and they are definitely going to make the play-offs. They are where we want to be and we can see where we need to improve if we are going to work towards that.
"Every game we go into, we’re trying to win. We ideally want to win both the games we have left, at Reading on Saturday and then at home to Middlesbrough the following Sunday in the last game of the season.
"Both our opponents want points for different reasons so each game has a lot riding on it.
"When I came to Ipswich in January I was hoping I could help the team to make a push for the play-offs, but it’s kind of fizzled out a bit.
"When I first came here we were picking up results and points. We have two games left and you could say we’re not really playing for anything but personal pride, which we all have a lot of, won’t allow us to think like that. We are looking to get two wins and six points, nothing less.”
Asked about his form during his loan spell with Town, he responded: "I’d like to think I have done well. It has been really beneficial for me to be playing alongside the likes of the skipper, Chambo, who has so much experience in the game and has been a big help to me.
"I would play anywhere to get a game but I really enjoy being the central defender when we have three at the back or being one of two central defenders when we play four.
"In a three you are the covering man and you get to use your brain a bit, reading the game.
"I have learned a lot from Chambo because he is such an experienced player and when we’re out there on the pitch he is always talking to you and helping you throughout the game.
"I have had 33 league starts in my time with Sheffield United and Ipswich and it has been my first full season playing professional men’s football. I like to think I have improved a lot.
"It’s good to be playing week in, week out, against grown men and it has played a big part in my development.
"It hasn’t just been about the football either. Both at Sheffield United and here the boys accepted me well right from the start and I have got on well with them all.
"It has been a really enjoyable season and a real learning curve for me. I enjoyed living up in Sheffield and it was a real change for me because I didn’t have my friends around me and my family wasn’t so close.
"It was a challenge but when I look back it was one I enjoyed. It was so different to being at Tottenham and playing in the U23s because every game in the Championship is a big one with points at stake.
"It’s a mental challenge, not just a physical one, because you have to get yourself ready to go again every week and sometimes twice a week.”
