Downes Set for England U19s Training Camp - Ipswich Town News

On-loan Blues midfielder Flynn Downes has been named in the England U19s squad taking part in a training camp at La Manga between May 20th and 25th.

The camp is part of the squad’s preparations for the European Championships in Finland in July where the Young Lions will be defending the trophy they won last year when Andre Dozzell was key member of the squad.

While Downes, who is currently on loan at Luton, has been named, having won five previous caps at U19 level, there’s no place for Tristan Nydam, who has won one for Paul Simpson’s side this season.

"This camp will be a great opportunity ahead of this summer’s Euros to work with the players and focus on us as a team,” said Simpson, who recently watched Town’s game at Nottingham Forest.

"We will use the time to concentrate on how we want to play and really develop that.”

Dozzell is still eligible for the U19s but is not yet ready to make his return from the cruciate knee ligament injury which he suffered on the opening day of the season.

England U19s: Brandon Austin (Tottenham Hotspur), Ellery Balcombe (Brentford), Jamie Cumming (Chelsea), Trevoh Chalobah (Chelsea), Marc Guehi (Chelsea), Reece James (Chelsea), Dujon Sterling (Chelsea), Japhet Tanganga (Tottenham Hotspur), Josh Tymon (Stoke City), Ben Wilmot (Stevenage), Flynn Downes (Ipswich Town), Elliot Embleton (Sunderland), Adam Lewis (Liverpool), Mason Mount (Vitesse Arnhem - loan from Chelsea), Marcus Tavernier (Middlesbrough), Joe Willock (Arsenal), Ben Brereton (Nottingham Forest), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Morgan Gibbs White (Wolverhampton Wanderers), George Hirst (Sheffield Wednesday), Callum Hudson-Odoi (Chelsea), Reiss Nelson (Arsenal), Eddie Nketiah (Arsenal), Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund).
