Johnno Speculation - Ipswich Town News

Former Town striker David Johnson's future is again the subject of speculation. Johnson left Town for Nottingham Forest in January 2001 at a cost of £3 million but failed to settle and had loan spells at a number of clubs towards the end of last season.

Johnson's final loan spell of the season was at Burnley working under Stan Ternent, his manager form his Bury days. They are reported to be keen to sign him permanently.

Prior to his spell at Turf Moor he spent time at Sheffield Wednesday and they are said to be monitoring the situation.

Leicester are also linked, while it is understood that Nottingham Forest's financial position may not be as parlous as had previously been the case and they currently appear keen to keep hold of him, chief executive Mark Arthur: "David Johnson reports back to us along with the rest of the players on July 1st for pre-season training. Nobody has put a bid in for him.

"We're in a different situation now with Nigel Doughty being in charge because we're not as desperate. We have had no interest in any of our players during the break and nor, quite frankly, do we expect anything until after the World Cup."

Johnson's value is something else being speculated upon. Towards the end of the season his agent Phil Graham said that Forest would let the striker go for his signing on fee of £120,000. Later it was reported that he was available for around £1 million.
