Robson to be Knighted? - Ipswich Town News

Reports in the North-East claim that former Town manager Bobby Robson is set to receive a well-deserved knighthood in the Queen's Birthday Honours which will be announced this weekend.

Blues' fans have long felt that the man who took them to FA Cup and UEFA Cup glory should be given the nation's highest accolade, and many have referred to him as 'Sir Bobby' for some years.

Supporters have cited his contribution as England boss, and abroad with PSV, Porto, Sporting Lisbon and Barcelona, in addition to his success at Town and more latterly with Newcastle United.

Newcastle United Rivals site TalkoftheTyne.com first broke the story of Robson's award. The site has been campaigning for a Robson knighthood for the last couple of years, a campaign backed by TWTD.

A statue of Robson will be unveiled at Portman Road on Tuesday 16th July. The piece is the work of Coach (also known as Sean Hedges-Quinn), the man responsible for the statue of Sir Alf Ramsey.

It will stand at the Cobbold Stand-Greene King Stand corner of the ground, on the opposite side of the road.
