Ramsey Lots Go Under the Hammer - Ipswich Town News
Memorabilia from legendary former Town and England manager Sir Alf Ramsey’s career go under the hammer at Clarke and Simpson’s auction house in Campsea Ashe this afternoon.
Thirty lots are up for sale following the death of his widow Lady Victoria Ramsey in March. Ramsey himself died aged 79 in April 1999.
They include the letter from the FA confirming Ramsey's appointment as England boss in October 1962 and a silver salver presented to him by the Council of the FA in 1972 to commemorate his 100th game in charge, which are expected to fetch up to £800 and £1,500 respectively.
Among the lots relating to Ramsey’s time at Town, during which time he famously took the Blues to the Second and First Division titles in successive seasons, the latter in the club's first campaign at that level, there is a silver salver presented by the Ipswich Town Supporters Association to mark the Division Two triumph in 1960/61. The full list of lots can be found here.
Current England boss Gareth Southgate begins the latest attempt to repeat Ramsey’s 1966 World Cup victory when the Three Lions face Tunisia in Volgograd this evening.
