Town Among Buyers at Ramsey Auction - Ipswich Town News

Town were among the buyers at the auction of legendary former Blues and England boss Sir Alf Ramsey’s memorabilia by Clarke and Simpson’s in Campsea Ashe earlier today.

The club paid £480 for a silver salver presented to Ramsey by the Ipswich Town Supporters Association to mark Town's Division Two title in 1960/61, which preceded the Blues' Division One championship at the first attempt the following season.

Thirty lots were up for sale following the death of Lady Victoria Ramsey in March. Ramsey, who led England to their World Cup triumph in 1966, died aged 79 in April 1999.

A silver salver presented by the Council of the FA in 1972 to commemorate Ramsey’s 100th game in charge of England made the highest price, £3,600, more than double the pre-auction estimate of £1,500.

A letter sent by the FA in 1962 confirming Ramsey's appointment as England manager sold for £3,400 having been expected to fetch £800.

The Blues previously bought mementoes relating to Ramsey’s career when they went under the hammer at Christie's in 2001.
