Town Eyeing Move for Departing Colchester Full-Back - Ipswich Town News

TWTD understands the Blues are weighing-up a move for Colchester United’s Kane Vincent-Young, who is out of contract and set to leave the U’s this summer.

Although right-footed, the 22-year-old has largely played as a left wing-back or left-back for Colchester and can also operate as a winger.

Vincent-Young was offered a new contract by the Essex side towards the end of last season but the deadline for him to sign has now passed. Although a free agent from July 1st, due to his age, the U’s would be due compensation.

Camden-born Vincent-Young was with the Tottenham academy - where he will have been coached by Bryan Klug during his spell working in the Spurs youth set-up - before being released in 2014 when he signed for Colchester after impressing on trial following a short stint in non-league with Banbury United.

Having broken into the League Two side's first team at the start of 2015/16, 5ft 11in tall Vincent-Young made 62 starts and 18 sub appearances for the U's, scoring once.

That strike, against Forest Green Rovers in August, won Colchester’s Goal of the Season trophy, while he was also named the club’s Young Player of the Year.

Meanwhile, AFC Wimbledon boss Neal Ardley says he expects out-of-contract striker Lyle Taylor, 28, who has been linked with the Blues among a number of other sides, to leave his club this summer.

"At the end of last season I had a good chat with Lyle and his agent. We put in an exceptional offer, for us, to try and keep him,” he told the South London Press

"Without Lyle actually saying it, the feeling is he has done a wonderful job over the last three years and has seen some of his team-mates go on to bigger and better things.

"His heart may be at challenging himself at a slightly bigger club in his prime, I don’t blame him.

"Without him saying anything to me or telling me he’s not coming back, I’m pretty confident that Lyle has got a number of clubs in for him and is going to choose one of them to take him to the next level of his career.

"He has got the ability to play in the Championship. Has he got the consistency to play in the Championship? Are there ones looking thinking he could be a bit of a gamble or a solid option? I don’t know.

"There is a small chance that Lyle will end up at a Championship club but I would’ve thought he would probably end up getting a decent contract at a good League One club, that’s more likely.”
