Hurst Confirms Chalobah Deal Close to Being Finalised - Ipswich Town News

New Town boss Paul Hurst has confirmed that Chelsea youngster Trevoh Chalobah is set become his first Blues signing on a season-long loan, perhaps as soon as today. TWTD revealed on Thursday that the 18-year-old had been at Playford Road for talks last Tuesday and over the weekend that the deal was likely to be confirmed over the next few days.

Asked whether he was close to making his first signing as the players returned for pre-season at Playford Road this morning, Hurst said: "We’re very close, in truth. Hopefully, maybe even today there might be some kind of announcement to make.”

Quizzed on whether Chalobah was the target concerned, he added: "I’ll be open with you, he’s the player I’m talking about.

"We’re just trying to finalise a few things and then hopefully, fingers crossed, no last minute hiccups, he can be part of the squad and the first signing.”

"Hurst says the England U19 international is very versatile: "Centre midfield or centre-back, I think in either of those positions he can be equally as good.

"He’s a very good player, very highly thought of, someone that in whichever position he’s in he’s very comfortable on the ball.

"Speaking to him, he sees the importance of this loan. If we do manage to secure that signing we’ll have fought off quite a bit of competition for him, so I think he’ll be a great addition.”
