McCall Moves to Coach - Ipswich Town News

Town have announced that UEFA Cup winner Steve McCall will join George Burley coaching staff for the 2002/03 season. McCall was appointed Town's scouting co-ordinator last season after spending a long period in the south-west with Torquay and Plymouth.

McCall will work alongside Burley and Tony Mowbray in taking care of the first team squad, but will eventually spend more time with the reserves once Dale Roberts has completed his recovery from non-Hogdkins lymphoma.

Bryan Hamilton, who returned to the club in November, is due to leave the club when his contract ends this summer.
Manager Burley told the club site: "Steve is joining the coaching staff and will start the season working alongside Tony Mowbray and myself.

"He has plenty of coaching experience after his time at Torquay and Plymouth and will be a valuable asset to us."

McCall was briefly manager at former club Plymouth in 1995 and had spells as coach at Home Park and also at another former club, Torquay United.

McCall played 329 times for Town, scoring eleven goals. He left Portman Road for Sheffield Wednesday in June 1987 for £300,000 and went on to play for Carlisle and Workington in addition to his two spells at Plymouth and one at Torquay.
