Shrews Physio Joins Blues - Ipswich Town News

Long-serving Shrewsbury physio Chris Skitt is following his former boss Paul Hurst to Portman Road.

Skitt, 32, has been with the Shrews since joining them from Burnley in 2009 and was promoted to working with the senior side two years later.

"It is a really tough decision to make after 10 years of being at the club — I've become massively fond of everyone around it, and the club itself," Skitt told the Shropshire Star.

"It wasn't an easy decision by any stretch. It's something I've thought about for a long time, run over the pros and cons and issues that might come up.

"It's a decision I've had to make, but with a hugely heavy heart. It's been a massive relationship we've formed and hopefully one we'll continue going forwards.”

He added: "It’s an opportunity to go to a club that is a big club and it’s in a league that is one better than we are in currently.

"It’s an opportunity for me to grow my career, test myself at the next level and see if my principles, and my understanding, and my outlook is robust enough at the level above."

Skitt's medicine and performance team at Shrewsbury carried off the League One members award at the Football Medicine and Performance Association Awards in May.

"The award was due to the team on the pitch and behind the players, not me solely, the group ethic," he continued.

"That's something I'm looking to install where we're going and push on to see if those input and theory works at a higher level."

We understand that as things stand no member of the current Blues physio staff is moving on, Matt Byard having been the head physio and Alex Chapman his assistant last season.

Skitt is the second member of Hurst's Shrewsbury staff to join him at Town, following assistant manager Chris Doig.
