New Single From Town Season Ticket Holder's Band - Ipswich Town News

Town season ticket holder and TWTD Forum regular Marc Newby’s band War Waves release their new single Sleep today.

Marc, who posts on TWTD as chrisswailes, says the band ought to appeal to fans of Frightened Rabbit, The Smiths and The Gaslight Anthem.

"Sleep was my attempt at writing a happier song… which quickly went the way of all the rest. I can't write happy songs,” he told TWTD.

"The new single and release has been (in our terms) a long time coming, so I'm incredibly excited for it to be out there in the world. Songwriting is cathartic for me, so once it's out there it's almost like closure.”

Adam Darowski of darowski.com said of War Waves and Sleep: "Nineties angst may have disappeared from the musical mainstream for a while, but it never left the fragile hearts and nervous minds of many of us.

"We don’t need a distraction - we need music that listens to us and shares our feeling of disenchantment.”

He added: "With [2016 album] All That We Lack, War Waves found their sound. On Sleep, the band refines it, upping the ante with more dynamism from the instrumentation and songwriter Marc Newby’s soul-baring lyrics and vocal delivery.

"This is the type of record you buy, listen to repeatedly and scream it back to the band when seeing it live.”

Sleep is available via Apple Music here, iTunes here, Bandcamp here and Spotify here.

The War Waves website can be found here, they are on Facebook here and their record company Backwater Records’ website is here.
