Sir Bobby Confirmed - Ipswich Town News

Former Town manager Bobby Robson has been knighted in the Queen's Birthday Honours, as reported by TWTD on Wednesday. Robson is joined on the list by Town supporting theatre director Trevor Nunn who has also been knighted.

Robson's knighthood has long been called for by fans of Town, and latterly by Newcastle United supporters.

The 69-year-old managed Town from 1969-1982 before becoming the second Blues' manager to take control of the England team. After taking England to the semi-finals of Italia 90 he became manager of PSV in Holland.

Successful spells at Sporting Lisbon, Porto, Barcelona and a second period at PSV followed before he returned to English club management with Newcastle, his home town club who he took to a Champions' League place last season.

Theatre director Trevor Nunn once described the 1978 FA Cup final as the greatest moment of his life. He has been responsible for productions like Cats, Les Miserables, Starlight Express and Miss Saigon.
