Former Colchester Man Vincent-Young With Town in Spain - Ipswich Town News

Former Colchester full-back Kane Vincent-Young is with the Blues squad which flew out to Spain for their week’s warm weather training earlier today. TWTD revealed that Town were eyeing the 22-year-old free agent just over a week ago.

Although right-footed, Vincent-Young largely played as a left wing-back or left-back for Colchester and can also operate as a winger.

Despite having failed to sign the new contract offered by the Essex side towards the end of last season, Vincent-Young joined up with their squad for the start of pre-season training last week with manager John McGreal still hopeful that he would stay with the U’s despite interest from the Blues and other clubs.

Although a free agent from yesterday, due to his age Colchester would be due compensation if he were to join Town.

Camden-born Vincent-Young was with the Tottenham academy - where he will have been coached by Bryan Klug during his spell working in the Spurs youth set-up - before being released in 2014 when he signed for Colchester after impressing on trial following a short stint in non-league with Banbury United.

Having broken into the League Two side's first team at the start of 2015/16, 5ft 11in tall Vincent-Young made 62 starts and 18 sub appearances for the U's, scoring once.

That strike, against Forest Green Rovers in August, won Colchester’s Goal of the Season trophy, while he was also named the club’s Young Player of the Year.

The Town squad - including midfielder Emyr Huws who wasn’t ready to join in on the first day of pre-season training last Monday - flew out from Stansted this morning and are spending the week at the Pinatar Arena Football Center, San Pedro del Pinatar, Murcia.
