Town and Forest Linked With Failed Moves for Celtic Target McGinn - Ipswich Town News

Town and Nottingham Forest are reported to have made failed moves for Hibernian midfielder John McGinn, who is now being targeted by Celtic.

According to the Scottish Daily Mail, the Scottish Premiership champions have had a £1.5 million offer turned down for the 23-year-old with the Blues and Forest having previously made unsuccessful approaches.

Hibs boss Neil Lennon has put a £5 million price on McGinn’s head, however with only a year left on his contract the Scotland international is likely to move for a lot less than that.

Given the size of their budget, Celtic would appear to be strong favourites to land McGinn, who primarily plays down the middle but can also operate wide, with a further bid expected to be lodged.

Town were previously linked with McGinn last summer when it was reported that the Blues had made a £1 million offer for the former St Mirren man.

Hibs boss Lennon subsequently confirmed those claims, however, then-Blues manager Mick McCarthy said no offer had been made but admitted talks had taken place.

Reported renewed Town interest in McGinn is not too much of a surprise after last year's links and with director of football Dave Bowman known to keep a close eye on Scottish football, although it's out-and-out wingers manager Paul Hurst has said he is most interested in adding to his squad rather than someone who plays primarily down the middle with the Blues already having a number of central midfielders.

Former Crawley wideman Jordan Roberts signed for Town on a free transfer last week, while another Scotland international, Forest’s Barrie McKay, has also been linked.

Meanwhile, the Blues squad are in day two of their Spanish training camp at the Pinatar Arena Football Center, San Pedro del Pinatar, Murcia.
