Garner on Target as Blues Defeat Kilmarnock in First Friendly - Ipswich Town News

Joe Garner netted the only goal as Town got their pre-season friendly programme off to a winning start with a 1-0 behind-closed-doors victory over Kilmarnock at La Manga, where the Scottish Premiership side have been training this week.

As is often the case in early pre-season friendlies, manager Paul Hurst fielded a different XI in each half with only trialist Kane Vincent-Young featuring in both periods.

Garner scored the game’s only goal early in the first half with Martyn Waghorn hitting the woodwork after the break, while Killie had a goal disallowed for offside.

The match saw Andre Dozzell and Tom Adeyemi both return to action for the first time after injury-hit 2017/18 campaigns, while new signings Trevoh Chalobah and Jordan Roberts both made their first appearances in Town shirts.

The squad return home on Monday following their week training at the Pinatar Arena Football Center, San Pedro del Pinatar, near Murcia.

The Blues play their first UK-based pre-season friendly next Saturday away against Vanarama National League Braintree Town. A full list of Town's friendlies can be found here.
