World Cup Semi-Final in FanZone - Ipswich Town News

England’s World Cup semi-final against Croatia on Wednesday evening will be shown live in the FanZone at Portman Road.

Around 3,000 fans were there to watch the 2-0 quarter-final victory over Sweden on Saturday and the club expect an even bigger crowd as the Three Lions look to reach a final for the first time since 1966.

Gates open at 4.30pm with entry free, while there is a £3 a pint offer until 6pm. There will be two giant screens as well as extra bars and eateries with the game kicking-off at 7pm.

"There has been a fantastic atmosphere in the FanZone at each of the England games and it’s sure to be the same on Wednesday night,” Town MD Ian Milne told the club site. "We’re expecting a big crowd. Let’s hope football really is coming home!”

""Town have thanked AXA who had booked the FieldTurf for an event on Wednesday evening but agreed to reschedule.

"AXA were straight on the phone to the club saying that they recognise the importance of showing the game in the FanZone and wanted to rebook for another day,” director of sales Rosie Richardson added. "I think some of the staff will still be here on Wednesday though!”

No food or drink should be brought into the FanZone and fans are asked not to bring any large bags for security reasons.

Gareth Southgate is the first England boss to take the Three Lions to a World Cup semi-final who hadn’t previously managed Town, following in the footsteps of Sir Alf Ramsey and Sir Bobby Robson.

However, the former Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough man has taken charge of one game from Portman Road’s home dugout, the 5-0 England U21s victory over Lithuania in 2013 with a number of players who are in Russia in his squad that night.
