The FA have confirmed that new Blues loanee Trevoh Chalobah and striker Ben Morris are with the England U19s squad which has travelled to Finland for the European Championships that start today.
Chalobah who joined Town on a season-long loan from Chelsea at the start of the month, was a member of the squad which won the competition in Georgia last summer and has previously picked up 20 U19s caps, scoring one goal, while Morris is yet to play at this level but has previously featured for the England U17s and U18s.
Andre Dozzell was also a key man in the side which won the Euros last summer but has remained behind this year as he continues his return from injury.
Fellow midfielders Tristan Nydam and Flynn Downes also won U19s caps last season but Town are understood to have refused the FA’s request for the duo to be involved, preferring that they remain in Suffolk for pre-season.
Speaking on Saturday, Blues boss Hurst says Chelsea giving permission for Chalobah to join up was something he was aware of when he recruited the defender or midfielder.
"It’s not ideal but I did know that when we signed him, we had that conversation, so that one in a lot of ways is self-inflicted and I do want him to be our player,” he said.
"I can take the hit, it’s not ideal, but I think he’ll prove a very good player for us over the course of the season and therefore I felt it was worth doing.”
The Young Lions face Turkey in Seinajoki in their opening group game on Tuesday (Sky Sports Football from 4.25pm).
They then take on Ukraine on Friday and France on the following Monday with both those games also on Sky Sports.
"We’re going to Finland to try and win, but the main objective for this group of players is tournament experience,” head coach Paul Simpson told TheFA.com.
"We ideally want to achieve at least a semi-final spot or better as it will guarantee our place in next year’s U20s World Cup and this group is more than capable of that.
"We met up as a squad last Tuesday and had a really good week of training at St George’s Park. We have eight new faces we have introduced to the group and everyone has settled in well, worked hard and I’m really looking forward to seeing them play these games.
"It’s massive for a player’s development to experience tournament football at a young age. We’re giving this group of players that experience here, which they will hopefully take into next summer’s U20s World Cup, and then further into their careers.
"It’s a challenge of living together for a period of time, a game every two or three days, pressure of penalty shootouts — everything you can get in a senior Euros or World Cup.
"They all want to play for England. There is a huge buzz around England at the moment, especially because of what the senior team have done in Russia, and it’s now up to us to go and continue that positive feeling.”
FA technical director Dan Ashworth says it’s frustrating that a number of clubs have turned down requests for their players to be involved, although he understands their position.
"It’s bitterly disappointing that, once again, this tournament is scheduled outside a FIFA window which forces clubs to make such difficult decisions," he added.
"We understand the dilemmas the clubs face around release of players during this particular time of the season and it’s our view, and that of several other countries, that UEFA should take this into account when scheduling tournaments of this magnitude.
"It’s the same situation for every country here and this surely impacts the value of the tournament. We all want our teams to be facing the best players in the world to really provide the greatest developmental impact.
"Hopefully, UEFA will finally look at this properly and schedule the tournament at a sensible time in the season in the future for the benefit of the players, clubs, international teams and the competition itself.
"That said, I am confident in the players that we have at this tournament and it gives them all a brilliant opportunity.”
