Sheffield United reportedly aren’t giving up on their pursuit of Blues striker Martyn Waghorn, despite manager Chris Wilder having said last night that Town’s £8-£10 million valuation has put them out of the chase.
According to the Sheffield Star, talks between the clubs are continuing with South Shields-born Waghorn said to be tempted by a move back up north.
That and Blues manager Paul Hurst admitting yesterday that he can’t guarantee that Waghorn will still be at Town on the opening day of the season are reported to have led to the Blades continuing their interest in the 28-year-old, who scored 16 times and recorded 11 assists last season.
Although Wilder cited the Blues' asking price as £8-£10 million in an interview with Sheffield Live TV last night, it’s claimed the Blades were initially given a £7.5 million valuation when making contact with Town regarding Waghorn.
The South Yorkshiremen are far from the only party interested in the former Rangers, Leicester, Sunderland and Wigan man.
TWTD previously revealed that Derby and Middlesbrough have also shown strong interest this summer, while Birmingham City have also been monitoring the situation and Nottingham Forest have been linked.
Waghorn, who joined the Blues from Ibrox for a bargain £200,000 in August last year, is contracted to Town until the summer of 2019 but with the club having the option to extend that deal for a further year.
