Wilder: Waghorn Valuation Too Steep for Blades - Ipswich Town News

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder says Town's valuation of striker Martyn Waghorn has priced the Blades out of the running for the 28-year-old, who in any case now looks set to join Derby County for £8 million.

The South Yorkshiremen made an offer of close to £5 million for Waghorn three weeks ago which was immediately rejected by Town. No further bids were made but Wilder made his continuing interest clear over the weekend.

Asked whether the price tag on Waghorn was too steep for his club, presumably prior to news of the Rams’ move breaking, Wilder told Sky Sports: "Yeah it is, without a shadow of a doubt. If the club are looking for £8 to £10 million that is not our valuation but it is obviously their prerogative - he is their player.

"We talked about it and that is where we are at. If it moves, it moves. If not, we will move on. It is such a tough market to deal in.

"A lot of clubs are really having a go for it but we are going about it in our way and hopefully we will get players that suit the strategy and structure of this club.”

Former Blues striker David McGoldrick scored the Blades’ goal as they drew 1-1 in a friendly with Inter Milan at Bramall Lane last night having signed a one-year deal earlier in the day after impressing on trial.
