Sheepshanks Joins Boycott - Ipswich Town News

Town chairman David Sheepshanks has joined the boycott of ITV's coverage of England games and he is urging those who haven't already done so to do the same.

The Blues chairman and the 71 other Football League chairmen have called for a boycott after the collapse of ITV Digital and the failure of parent companies Carlton and Granada to honour their contract with the League.

The Town chairman said: "It may sound churlish but I would ask fans to tune into BBC rather than ITV for all the remaining games.

"Carlton and Granada have behaved abysmally with the Football League. Whether they have some contractual loophole to do what they are doing remains to be seen, but morally, ethically and in every other respect they are, in my view, 100% liable for the obligations of ITV Digital and they in that sense reneged on the deal."

The boycott has so far seen the BBC trouncing ITV when the two have gone head-to-head. 12.4 million people watched the Denmark match on the BBC with just 3.2 million viewing on ITV.

The Football League plans to stage two weeks of mass protest outside Carlton and Granada's offices. The chairmen and fans of the 72 Football League clubs will line the pavements for 12 days in the run-up to the court action the league has brought against the two companies. The case begins on July 26th.
