Town Draw Today - Ipswich Town News

Town will find out who their UEFA Cup qualifying round opponents are today at 11am. Club secretary David Rose along with Richard Powell have made the trip to Geneva with David Sheepshanks otherwise engaged.

Town fans will hope to avoid drawing Albanians SK Tirana and Bosnians Siroki Brijeg due to ease of travel rather than any footballing reasons.

The Albanians finished second in their league table and are known as the Zebras desptie their blue and white stripes. There look to be no problems with tickets should Town make a trip to the Albanian captial, their Qemmal Stafa holds 30,000.

Siroki Brijeg is close to Mostar and has been the scene of a Second World War massacre and of ethnic cleaasing during the more recent conflict. A local Franciscan monastry has been at the centre of a dispute regarding missing World War Two loot which allegedly ended up in the Vatican.

Foreign Office advice to travellers to Bosnia warns to keep away from minor roads as some tend to be mined. Their side looks to be the strongest of the lot while still not daunting opposition.

Bangor are managed by Peter Davenport (ex-Forest) and have Clayton Blackmore in the line-up. They have already decided to play their UEFA Cup games at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground, a scene of one of Town's more embarrassing defeats back in 1995.

Icelandic side Fylkir are based in eastern Reykjavik and it is the second time they have been in Europe.

Their home ground holds just 1,000 but the game is almost certain to switch to the Icelandic National Stadium which holds 10,000. Striker Steingrimur Johannesson is a friend of Hermann Hreidarsson from his days with IBV Vestmannaeyjar.

Luxembourgers FC Avenir Beggen have a 5,000 capacity ground and are holders of the Luxembourg Cup.

The games will be played in August 15th and 29th.
