Walters and Chalobah Set for Caps, Knudsen Could Now Face Wales - Ipswich Town News

Blues loanees Jon Walters and Trevoh Chalobah are set to add to their international caps later today, while Jonas Knudsen could now play for Denmark in Sunday’s UEFA Nations League tie against Wales after all.

Walters, 34, looks set to win his 54th Republic of Ireland cap and will hope to add to his 14 international goals when the Republic of Ireland take on the Welsh in Cardiff in their opening Nations League match this evening (KO 7.45pm, Sky Sports Main Event from 7pm). Ireland also play Poland in a friendly in Dublin on Tuesday.

Chalobah, 19, is likely to pick up his first England U20s cap when the Young Lions face Switzerland in a friendly at St George’s Park this afternoon. The England youngsters have another friendly against Holland in Katwijk on Monday.

Meanwhile, Blues left-back Knudsen, 25, may now play for Denmark in Sunday’s Nations League match against Wales with the DBU, the Danish FA, hopeful that the long-running contractual dispute with their international players, which relates to a new commercial rights agreement and a number of other terms, will be resolved in time for the match.

Last night, with the regular squad refusing to play, a Danish side made up of amateurs and futsal players was defeated 3-0 in a friendly in Slovakia.

Although no agreement has yet been reached, negotiations have resumed and the DBU have told the team involved last night that they expect the senior squad to play on Sunday.

"Manager Ã…ge Hareide, who had picked a 23-man squad for the two matches which included Knudsen, who has won four senior caps, has been put back in charge and is set to re-name a party for the Wales match.
